Project overview

HAARP antenna array
The HAARP project directs a 3.6 Mega Watts (MW) signal, in the 2.8–10 Megahertz (MHz) region of the High Frequency band, into the ionosphere. The signal may be pulsed or continuous. Effects of the transmission and any recovery period can be examined using associated instrumentation, including very high-frequency (VHF) and Ultra High-Frequency (UHF) radars, High Frequency (HF) receivers, and optical cameras. According to the HAARP team, this will advance the study of basic natural processes that occur in the ionosphere under the natural but much stronger influence of solar interaction. HAARP also enables studies of how the natural ionosphere affects radio signals.

Research

HAARP’s main goal is basic science research in the uppermost portion of the atmosphere, termed the ionosphere. Essentially a transition between the atmosphere and the magnetosphere, the ionosphere is where the atmosphere is thin enough that the sun’s X-rays and UV rays can reach it, but thick enough that there are enough molecules present to absorb those rays. Consequently, the ionosphere consists of a rapid increase in density of free electrons, beginning at ~70 km, reaching a peak at ~300 km, and then falling off again as the atmosphere disappears entirely by ~1,000 km. Various aspects of HAARP can study all of the main layers of the ionosphere.

Some of the main capabilities of HAARP include:

  1. Generating very low frequency (VLF) radio waves by modulated heating of the auroral electrojet, useful because generating VLF waves ordinarily requires gigantic antennas
  2. Generating artificial Airglow, which is typically subvisual but routinely detectable.  Under certain geophysical conditions and transmitter configurations, it can be bright enough to observe with the unaided eye.
  3. Generating extremely low frequency (ELF) waves in the 0.1 Hz range. These are next to impossible to produce any other way, because the length of an antenna is dictated by the wavelength of the signal it emits or receives.
  4. Generating whistler-mode VLF signals that enter the magnetosphere and propagate to the other hemisphere, interacting with Van Allen radiation belt particles along the way
  5. VLF remote sensing of the heated ionosphere

Research at the HAARP has included:

  1. Plasma line observations
  2. Stimulated electron emission observations
  3. Gyro frequency heating research
  4. Spread F observations (blurring of ionospheric echoes of radio waves due to irregularities in electron density in the F layer)
  5. High-velocity trace runs
  6. Airglow observations
  7. Heating induced scintillation observations
  8. VLF and ELF generation observations
  9. Radio observations of meteors
  10. Polar mesospheric summer echoes (PMSE) have been studied, probing the mesosphere using the IRI as a powerful radar, and with a 28 MHz radar and two VHF radars at 49 MHz and 139 MHz. The presence of multiple radars spanning both HF and VHF bands allows scientists to make comparative measurements that may someday lead to an understanding of the processes that form these elusive phenomena.
  11. Research into extraterrestrial HF radar echos: the Lunar Echo experiment (2008).
  12. Testing of spread spectrum Transmitters (2009)
  13. Meteor shower impacts on the ionosphere
  14. Response and recovery of the ionosphere from solar flares and geomagnetic storms
  15. The effect of ionospheric disturbances on GPS satellite signal quality
  16. Producing high density plasma clouds in Earth’s upper atmosphere

Research conducted at the HAARP facility has allowed the US military to perfect communications with its fleet of submarines by sending radio signals over long distances.

What HAARP really does- Conspiracy Theories at their best

The High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) has been the subject of various conspiracy theories over the years. HAARP is a research program jointly funded by the U.S. Air Force, Navy, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Its main objective is to study the ionosphere and investigate radio communications and other related phenomena.

Some of the conspiracy theories associated with HAARP include:

  1. Weather Manipulation: One common conspiracy theory suggests that HAARP has the ability to control weather patterns and create natural disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, and tsunamis. It claims that HAARP’s high-frequency radio waves can modify the ionosphere and influence the weather on a global scale, creating floods, drought, damaging storms and bush fires.
  2. Mind Control: Another prominent conspiracy theory proposes that HAARP is involved in mind control experiments. It suggests that HAARP’s electromagnetic waves can be used to manipulate human thoughts and behavior, potentially leading to population control or mass mind control.
  3. Weaponization: Some conspiracy theories suggest that HAARP is a secret weapon system capable of deploying powerful energy beams. These theories propose that HAARP could be used for destructive purposes, including disabling or destroying enemy satellites, disrupting communication systems, or even triggering natural disasters as a form of warfare.
  4. UFO Interference: Some theories speculate that HAARP is connected to extraterrestrial activities or is being used to communicate with alien civilizations. They propose that the program’s true purpose is hidden behind a façade of ionospheric research.

Allegations include the following:

  • Nick Begich Jr., the son of the late U.S. Representative Nick Begich and brother of former U.S. Senator Mark Begich and retired Alaska state senator Tom Begich, is the author of Angels Don’t Play This HAARP. He has claimed that the HAARP facility could trigger earthquakes and turn the upper atmosphere into a giant lens so that “the sky would literally appear to burn.” He maintains a website that claims HAARP is a mind control device.
  • A Russian military journal wrote that ionospheric testing would “trigger a cascade of electrons that could flip Earth’s magnetic poles”
  • The Alaska state legislature and the European Parliament held hearings about HAARP, the latter citing environmental concerns.
  • Former Governor of Minnesota, ex-professional wrestler, and documentary maker Jesse Ventura questioned whether the government is using the site to manipulate the weather or to bombard people with mind-controlling radio waves. An Air Force spokeswoman said Ventura made an official request to visit the research station but was rejected. “He and his crew showed up at HAARP anyway and were denied access.”
  • Physicist Bernard Eastlund claimed that HAARP includes technology based on his own patents that have the capability to modify weather and neutralize satellites.
  • U.S. Patent 4,686,605.
  • It has been proposed as a cause of low-frequency background hums said to be heard in various locales.

HAARP as a Weapon

According to the Pentagon, the primary purpose of HAARP is to improve long-term communication, specifically with submarines that may be deployed in far-off locations. High-frequency communication waves bounced off of ionospheric bubbles can travel around the globe, and they can easily penetrate the surface of the ocean to reach Navy subs even when they are deeply submerged.  But while there is no doubt that improving global communication is one of the motivations for HAARP, the important point to remember here is that with HAARP technology, there are no longer any limits on the intensity and strength of the electromagnetic waves that can be bounced off of our upper atmosphere. A phased array capable of generating enough energy to deform the ionosphere in this way can just as easily produce incredibly powerful bursts of electromagnetic energy that can be reflected off of any ionospheric bubbles that have been created – and this includes energy bursts equivalent in strength to electromagnetic pulses produced by high-altitude nuclear explosions.

And indeed, close scrutiny of patents for HAARP technology and various military documents make it clear that plans for HAARP go far beyond simply using it to improve communications. In fact, documents have been uncovered that explicitly state that HAARP technology was built at least in part because it would be capable of recreating the effects of a nuclear-generated EMP. Perhaps the most insidious thing about HAARP is that because it is so isolated and distant from everything if it were activated and used to send out a powerful pulse of electromagnetic energy designed to destroy another nation’s electric and electronic infrastructure, how would anyone even know for sure what had actually happened? Of course, we might not be all that concerned about this as Americans if we were the only people in the world that possessed this technology. But as you can imagine, other nations like China and Russia are hard at work developing this same kind of technology, and ultimately they will be able to use it secretly against us just as easily as we would be able to use it against them.

And the situation may be even worse than this because the kind of atmospheric manipulation made possible by HAARP technology could also conceivably be used to control the weather. Massive storms could be created or diverted off of their natural path as a way to attack other nations in an especially insidious and impossible-to-prove manner. In fact, there are some who believe that something like this may have already happened; and further, there are some who believe that HAARP technologies could be used to trigger earthquakes and that this may also have already been done – although just exactly how high-frequency electromagnetic energy could cause this effect is not entirely clear. But connections do appear to exist between certain atmospheric disturbances and seismic activity, so this is an area that needs further study.

Haarp

Nick Begich is the son of US Rep. Nick Begich who was killed in a plane crash with Hale Boggs, who was Speaker of the US House of Representatives. Nick Jr. gets US taxpayer grants to publish and educate the public about new technology. Part 1. This is about external influences on the brain electronically. Begich says that the US government has a history of using human subjects for experiments without consent. But he says that many people who claim they are such subjects of this electronic experimentation are suffering from other difficulties, e.g., psychiatric problems. It seems as if Begich is revealing the technology and at the same time providing cover for abuses of human subjects.

Begich reports an experiment on students diagnosed with ADD and ADHD who were subjected to electronic conditioning using a “helmet.” He says they were able to return to regular education classes and that it cost the school district less money than if they needed the special ed classes. He approves of using electronics for brain control and treatment. He also tells of treatment in Finland which was challenged by the traditional physicians in court.

Begich suggests that it is now possible to “download” information to the human brain. That this will be an issue for public education in this country. Who will decide what gets put into children’s brains? Parents or the government?
